As society continues to evolve and progress, certain practices and beliefs that we currently consider acceptable may be viewed as outdated or even ridiculous in the future.

It’s impossible to predict exactly what aspects of our current culture will be subject to ridicule in 100 years. Still, by examining current trends and values, we can make some educated guesses.

From our treatment of animals to our obsession with social media, there are many practices that society may one day look back on with amusement or disdain.

In the future, people may look back at our current practices of raising and slaughtering animals for food with disdain. As more people turn to plant-based diets for health and environmental reasons, the idea of consuming meat from an animal may be seen as barbaric.

2. Driving Gas-Powered Cars

With the rise of electric and self-driving cars, the idea of manually driving a gas-powered car may seem archaic. People may wonder how we could have ever justified the pollution caused by gasoline-powered vehicles and may be amazed at the risk and danger involved in manually operating a vehicle.

3. Fossil Fuel Dependence

The world is gradually moving away from fossil fuels and toward renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power. In 100 years, society may scoff at our current dependence on oil, coal, and gas and view it as a dangerous and unsustainable practice that contributed to climate change and environmental degradation.

4. Lack of Action on Climate Change

As climate change becomes an increasingly pressing issue, future generations may look back at our current lack of action with frustration and disbelief. They may wonder how we could have ignored the warning signs and continued to prioritize economic growth over the health of our planet.

5. Disposable Products

Our current culture of convenience and lack of attention toward disposable products may be looked upon with derision by future generations who have more sustainable alternatives. They may be shocked at the amount of waste we produce and the environmental damage caused by single-use plastics and other disposable products.

6. Lack of Privacy

With the rise of surveillance technology and the Internet of Things, our current lack of privacy may be viewed as a dangerous and unnecessary practice. People in the future may be appalled that we willingly gave up our privacy and allowed companies and governments to collect data on us without our knowledge or consent.

7. Social Media

The current obsession with social media and the pressure to present a curated, perfect version of ourselves may be viewed as shallow and narcissistic. Future generations may wonder how we could have spent so much time and energy on virtual interactions and may prefer more meaningful face-to-face relationships.

8. Consumer Culture

Our current culture of consumerism may be viewed as wasteful and unnecessary in the future. People may wonder how we could have placed so much value on material possessions and may prefer a more minimalist lifestyle that prioritizes experiences and relationships over things.

The use of capital punishment may be viewed as barbaric and outdated in 100 years. As society becomes more focused on rehabilitation and restorative justice, people may be shocked that we ever condoned the taking of human life as a punishment for crimes.

Mental health is becoming an increasingly important topic, and in the future, people may be appalled at how little support is available for those struggling with mental illness.
