23 Spring Activities for Your Spring Bucket List
These bucket list items are great ways to get out and enjoy the spring season. You can do them alone, with friends, as a couple, or with kids of all ages in tow.
If winter is getting you down, creating a bucket list for spring is a great way to give you something to look forward to, too.
Take a Hike
First up on our list is hiking. Spring is the perfect time to hit the trails and explore the great outdoors. There’s no shortage of hiking trails to choose from, whether you’re looking to stay local or venture out to a new destination. Make sure to pack snacks, water, and sunscreen for your hike, and be sure to wear comfortable shoes and appropriate clothing for the weather. Take your time, breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy the beauty of nature.
Visit a Park
Parks are the perfect place to gather friends and family for a fun day outside. Pack a picnic or barbecue, play games like frisbee or catch, or simply relax on a blanket and soak up the sun. Take a stroll around the park and admire the spring blossoms and wildlife. Whatever your preference, spending time in a park is a great way to enjoy the beauty of spring and spend quality time with loved ones.
Stop by the Playground
Swing on the swings, slide down the slides and climb on the jungle gym. Bring along some snacks and drinks to refuel and keep the fun going. Whether you have a kid or a kid at heart, spending time at the playground is sure to put a smile on your face.
Celebrate Mother’s Day
Don’t forget to celebrate Mother’s Day this spring. This special holiday is the perfect opportunity to show your appreciation for the special women in your life. Plan a brunch, a picnic, or a day trip to a nearby destination. Don’t forget to bring a card or small gift to show your love and gratitude. Taking the time to celebrate the women who have made a difference in your life is a great way to spread joy and love this spring.
Make (Or Set Up) A Bird Feeder
Of course, you can do this year-round, but many birds that migrate south for the winter will be returning in the spring. Making your own bird feeder can be a really fun activity for date night with your partner or an activity to do with the kids.
Making a bird feeder is very easy- the birds don’t care if it is fancy, a simple bird feeder is just as good.
If you’re not creative, that’s OK – buy one instead. Then hang your bird feeder up in the yard where you can see it.
Visit a Farmer’s Market
Most of these shut down over the winter but will usually open sometime during the spring. It varies from place to place, but spring farmer’s markets are typically filled with handmade crafts and preserves made over the winter.
Take the time to explore your local farmer’s market and see what seasonal and local fruits and vegetables are available for sale.
Farmer’s markets are also a great way to shop local and either save money or get fresher produce than at the grocery store.
Have a Garage Sale
If you did some decluttering over the winter or found yourself wanting to spring clean and get rid of stuff, a garage sale is a great way to rehome those unwanted items. Plus, it’s an excellent way to make a bit of extra cash!
Celebrate Earth Day
Earth Day is held on April 22nd each year. If you haven’t participated in the past, it’s definitely something you should add to your spring bucket list this year. Find ways to save money and celebrate, or check out your community events to see if anything is happening for you to join.
Collect Litter/Host a Community Clean Up
Anyone who lives in a snowy climate understands why this is so important in the springtime. Litter often gets trapped under the snow, only to be revealed in the springtime when everything melts. So dedicate some time to helping the environment and picking up litter in your area.
If you’re feeling really ambitious, why not get some neighbors together for a community clean-up?
Try Some Spring Veggies
Buying and eating spring veggies is especially fun if you are trying to encourage your kids to try something new. Asparagus, radishes, peas, spinach, kale, broccoli, cauliflower, rhubarb, cabbage, and onion tops all come into season during the spring.
Enjoy the Rain (And Rainbows)
Spring is the rainy season in most parts of the country, but you can’t let the weather stop you from enjoying the outdoors. Jumping in puddles is an essential part of childhood, and kids will be overjoyed to take part in this spring bucket list item. But don’t let them have all the fun in the rain!
Once the storm is over, see if you can track down some spring rainbows. The first one of the year is always special!
Play Outdoor Mini Golf
Playing mini golf depends on where you live since some venues are only open in summer. Although you can play outdoor mini-golf all summer, spring is the perfect time to go because it’s usually less busy and hot. So go ahead and play mini golf while enjoying the perfect spring weather!
Pick Spring Flowers
Spring’s early-blooming flowers make beautiful bouquets that you can pick yourself, assuming you have access to flower beds. Irises, tulips, and lilies of the valley should be in bloom this time of year.
Most grocery and big box stores have inexpensive, beautiful spring bouquets or plants if you don’t have a garden to pick from. It’s not the most frugal option, but live plants and flowers are great for your mental health.
Plant a Garden
Gardening can be for anyone – not just people with big yards. If you have the space, a vegetable garden is a relaxing spring and summer hobby that also helps you save money. Consider planting a few vegetable plants in pots or containers if that’s not doable.
Tomatoes, zucchini, and peppers do well in pots as long as they get good sunlight. Or opt for an indoor herb garden so you can have fresh ingredients for your cooking.
You can’t start outdoor gardens until after the ground thaws, and you’re sure there will be no more frost, which varies by climate. You can bring potted plants inside if you plant them too early, though.
Have a Garden Tea Party
The lovely spring days mean that having tea in the garden is a perfect bucket list idea. Brew some tea, make some sandwiches, buy or make some pastries (scones and cream, anyone?), and head out to the garden and enjoy a lovely garden tea party. Feel free to be as glam as you want!
Fly a Kite
Yep, we’re throwing back to this classic spring activity. It’s a good time of year for kite flying because spring weather is usually windier than summer. This is also a fun activity for those early spring days when the weather isn’t all that nice.
Kites can be homemade or purchased – and this activity isn’t just for the kids. Who says adults can’t have fun too?
Read Spring-Themed Books
Spring romance? Charlotte’s Web? The Very Hungry Caterpillar? There’s a spring book for every reader out there, so add some seasonal reading to your spring bucket list. Bonus points if you take your reading outside!
Enjoy Spring’s Natural Beauty
This is kind of broad, but stay with me here. Society is so fast-paced nowadays that we really need to slow down and experience our lives. It’s hard to admit, but sometimes a relaxing walkout in the spring scenery can be tedious. No matter how nice it is.
Instead, plan a hobby activity that you can incorporate spring into. One idea is to have a photoshoot – either take pictures of yourself or your family amongst the spring scenery or photograph it on its own.
You could also collect spring flowers and press them, use items from nature to create spring crafts with the kids, or take your creative writing outside and describe the season.
Bicycle Riding
Go for bike rides! It’s a great way to get some exercise on a beautiful day when the weather permits. Be sure to figure out where to ride the bikes before heading out on the journey. Biking and looking at the scenic views is a great way to enjoy the gorgeous spring days.
Go for a Nature Walk
Take the children out for a nature walk. Look for different trails in your area that are worth hiking on to see what you can find. Look out for wildflowers, butterflies, daffodils, and other flower blossoms that are sure to be sprouting in your area.
Take Spring Pictures
Head to the gorgeous outdoors and take some pictures of your family in the beautiful spring scenery. Look for trees or other lush green areas to really capture the beauty of spring in your
Check Out a Local Trail
Check out the local trails in your area and go for a hike with the kids. It’s a great way to get outdoors, get some exercise, and spend time talking with your loved ones. In addition, your children can enjoy the time spent looking around and exploring the different things you’ll see and find on the hiking trail.
Visit Local Parks
Be sure to visit some of the local parks as a family. Some of these parks may have spots for you to play different sports with your children, such as volleyball, football, and basketball. In addition to playing sports, they may have designated areas by the water for sitting, relaxing, and talking to one another.
