My Dearest Readers,
I am once again called upon to share negative tidings from your favorite TV show. Phoebe Dynevor, The Duchess of Hastings herself, has confirmed that she will not return for Bridgerton Season 3 as her darling young brother finds love.
Missing Characters
When Bridgerton Season 3 once again graces our screens, a few notable faces will be missing.
Rege-Jean Page announced last year that he would once again be missing from Bridgerton after his exit before Season 2. Ruby Stokes, who plays Francesca Bridgerton, left the show to play the fantastic Lucy Carlyle in Netflix’s newest YA thriller, Lockwood & Co. Now Phoebe Dynevor has confirmed that she will not be reprising her role as Daphne Bridgerton Basset, Duchess of Hastings.
In an interview with Screen Rant at Sundance discussing her new movie, Fair Play, Phoebe Dynevor seemed to say that she wouldn’t be returning for Season 3. When asked about her character Daphne, Dynevor replied, “Sadly, not in Season 3. Potentially in the future.”
You can see the whole interview here:
Netflix and the Bridgerton team have not released any formal statement regarding Dynevor’s fate as Daphne.
Season 3 Is Polin Season
Season 3 will focus on Colin and Penelope’s love story in a massive departure from the books. The characters, played by Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan, respectively, are featured in the series’s 4th book, Romancing Mr. Bridgerton.
However, their story takes place in the book series after a significant time jump, so the focus on Colin and Penelope means the story will be very different from the book.
Chris Van Dusen, the showrunner of Seasons 1 and 2, has stepped down, and Jess Brownell is taking over from Season 3.
Official Season 3 Synopsis
Netflix released this official synopsis of Season 3,
“From Shondaland and new showrunner, Jess Brownell, Bridgerton is back for its third season and finds Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) has finally given up on her long-held crush on Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) after hearing his disparaging words about her last season. She has, however, decided it’s time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters.
But lacking in confidence, Penelope’s attempts on the marriage mart fail spectacularly. Meanwhile, Colin has returned from his summer travels with a new look and a serious sense of swagger. But he’s disheartened to realize that Penelope, the one person who always appreciated him as he was, is giving him the cold shoulder. Eager to win back her friendship, Colin offers to mentor Penelope in the ways of confidence to help her find a husband this season. But when his lessons start working a little too well, Colin must grapple with whether his feelings for Penelope are truly just friendly. Complicating matters for Penelope is her rift with Eloise (Claudia Jessie), who has found a new friend in a very unlikely place, while Penelope’s growing presence in the ton makes it all the more difficult to keep her Lady Whistledown alter ego a secret.”
Fans will miss Dynevor and can only hope that she and her on-screen husband will be reunited again soon! Until then, hopefully, she will be living her best life!
