20 Things That Scream “Trashy” To You

Let’s talk about the “trashy” side of life, shall we? You know, those things that make you cringe so hard you wish you had a rewind button for your life choices. We all have our moments, but some things are too trashy to do and completely change how we see the doer.

One person asked, “What screams “trashy” to you?” This thread received insights from many users, and we have compiled the top comments for you.

1. Talking Bad About Your Partner

When it comes to relationships, we all know that love isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s more like a rollercoaster ride with its ups and downs. However, there’s one thing that should be an unwritten rule in any relationship handbook: never trash-talk your partner. It’s not just a bad idea; it’s downright trashy.

A discerning Reddit user commented, “Parents who trash talk the other parent in front of their children.”

Another added, “This was my Mom and Dad. So when I got divorced, I decided it would always take the high road. My ex-wife LOVES to trash me to anyone who will listen. My kids didn’t like me much until they were old enough to see the truth of things. Now we have a very solid bond, and they hate their mom.”

2. Yelling in Public

Every neighborhood has its own symphony- birds chirping, kids playing, the gentle hum of life. But yelling every day is like introducing a cacophonous, out-of-tune instrument into the orchestra. It disrupts the peace, shattering the harmony that your neighbors cherish.

A Reddit user wrote, “Yelling at each other every. single. day. in the front yard for ALL your neighbors to hear.”

Someone commented, “And my mother wondered why I referred to my family as white trash….”

3. Looking After Your Kids

First, let’s lay it out: Parenting is a Gig. When you brought those adorable bundles of joy into the world, you signed up for a lifelong gig. And guess what? You don’t get to quit or take a vacation from it.

One said, “Not taking care of your kids.”

Someone else added, “I agree. Anyone who doesn’t take care of my kids is a total piece of trash.” Parents who bring their infants and toddlers to bars and restaurants until late into the night. Like, take your kids home!”

4. Difficult Names

One Redditor stated, “When people name their kids things like Mackinleigh and spell it atrociously like that.”

Another added, “I once had a student shadow Khristehn. I thought it was a typo – nope. Could go on for hours with these tragic names, but that one always sticks with me because it was spelled like a sneeze IMO.”

What one person finds unique and meaningful, another may perceive as unconventional or even “trashy.”

5. Harming Your Fetus

Smoking while pregnant increases the risk of stillbirth, which is the loss of a baby before birth. This devastating outcome can have lifelong emotional consequences for the parents. A Reddit user wrote, “Smoking while pregnant.”

Another person agreed to it and said, “I knew of this girl who was putting the baby up for adoption, so she kept smoking and doing large quantities of drugs because it “wouldn’t be her problem.” I had to leave the house I was at, I couldn’t even look at her. Some people are so terrible. Absolutely disgusting she should be in prison for the rest of her life.

Edit: I know the baby was born and was indeed put up for adoption (thank god she can’t ruin its life any more than she probably has), but I’m not certain whether it was born with any defects or not. Still very sad and will probably have developmental problems later in life.”

6. Drinking Alcohol

A discerning Reddit user commented, “My family isn’t rich, but I have some filthy rich relatives. They drink all day and think it’s fine because it’s all top shelf. Still looks just as trashy to me as someone throwing back light beer all day in the trailer park.”

Someone else added, “Same boat. Both grandmothers came from super deep pockets of old money, like sprawling Fifth Avenue apartments and multiple vacation homes old money. One side is serious and stodgy, maybe a drink at Christmas. The other parties feel like it’s going out of style. My grand folks are slowing down now that they’re nearing 100, but Lord Almighty was there some crazy drinking when I was growing up.

But it was always “okay” because it was quality stuff. I heard that excuse a lot when I was carrying people to bed. An 8-year-old shouldn’t be responsible for his mom like that, regardless of how nice the hooch is. Also interesting to see how two different families in similar financial circumstances handle stuff like drinking so differently.”

Responsible drinking is a personal choice and can be a part of many people’s lives in a safe and enjoyable manner.

7. Superiority Complex

Everyone has their unique challenges and circumstances, and nobody should be treated poorly due to factors beyond their control. One said, “Treating people poorly because you see them as “beneath you.””

Another added, “There was some wife-swapping reality show where the mom from a suburban family walked into a tiny, modest home the other family lived in and said “This house is so small and pathetic I just want to spit on the ground. But I won’t because I’m classy.””

8. The Service Industry

Every person, regardless of their job, deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.

A Reddit user wrote, “Treating service industry folks like they are lesser humans.”

Someone commented, “I’ve worked in the service industry for years, and all I can say is never again. People end up taking their life’s frustrations out on you.”

9. Fights

One said, “Adults who go looking for a fight. Adults who immediately resort to threats or violence when it comes to conflict.”

Someone else added, “Yo, let’s take this outside! You lead the way, punk! I don’t know what I did. I don’t know what you did. But all I know is that we’re gonna take this outside!”

Adults who seek out fights set a poor example for younger generations, perpetuating a cycle of violence and confrontation.

10. Putting the Products Back to Their Place

Someone commented, “Not putting something back in the stores if you decide you don’t want it, just plopping it on the shelf wherever you are. Extra trashy bonus points if it’s refrigerated or frozen foods and you leave it out, forcing the store to have to throw it away.”

Another person agreed to it and said, “I had a friend do this, and she also worked at Wal-Mart before and said it gave her something to do when the store was slow… I was like, really??? You support people being lazy and making more work for an already miserable job?”

Let’s not forget the other shoppers. You know, the ones who might’ve wanted that neon pink lampshade. Leaving it in the wrong aisle or on a random shelf makes their shopping experience a bit more confusing and chaotic.

11. Artificial Nails

A discerning Reddit user commented, “Super long fake nails.”

Another added, “How can people even do anything with the super long nails? Just seems like a waste of money”

How do you type on your phone or laptop with those daggers? It’s frustrating and ineffective. And don’t even get us started on trying to open a can of soda or scratch an itch.

12. Putting Things in Your Bra

A Reddit user wrote, “Holding your cell phone in your bra strap.”

Someone else added, “My first job was as a cashier, and it was disgusting when someone would hand you damp money they pulled out of their bra.”

Let’s not forget about the hygiene aspect. Your bra isn’t exactly a sterile environment. It’s where sweat and skin collide, and sometimes even little crumbs from that snack you had earlier in the day. Do you really want your credit card to cozy up next to all that?

13. Respecting Other Homes

One said, “Not respecting the person’s home you’re in. For example: Not knocking and just entering into one’s home, going through someone’s fridge without asking and especially deciding to wander upstairs on the second floor where all the bedrooms are without any invitation.”

Another person agreed to it and said, “I had a massive, massive crush on my neighbor for like 15 years. One day, we ran into each other when we were walking our dogs and started talking and hanging out. One hangout sesh, he came over, pulled a pillow off of my couch, put it on the floor, put his bare feet on it, and finished the entire movie like that??? I think about it all the time, and this was literally 14 years ago”

So, the next time you find yourself in someone else’s house, remember this golden rule: Leave it better than you found it.

14. Luxury Logos Being Everywhere

Luxury brands are all about that status symbol of life. But when you deck yourself out like a walking billboard for these brands, it’s less about style and more about showing off your bank account. Trashy, right?

One Redditor stated, “The Louis Vuitton pattern… I know the bags and such are expensive, but it’s one of the brands that has been obsessed over by ghetto/trailer trash with tattoos/nails/prints that I see as trashy anyway.”

Another added, “Visible logos, in general, are so tacky. The worst is when I like something only to find a huge logo on the side or back. Why would I pay someone for the opportunity to be their walking billboard? Gross.”

15. Making Your Problems Public

A discerning Reddit user commented, “posting relationship problems on Facebook.”

Someone commented, “Bonus points if they tag people. It’s like a train wreck; you can turn away! Still trashy, though!”

Don’t get us wrong, we’ve all had our fair share of relationship drama. It’s part and parcel of the whole love thing. But broadcasting your issues to the entire world on Facebook?

16. Yard Trash

We all love a bit of character and personal style in our homes, right? But there’s a fine line between unique and straight-up chaotic. A Reddit user wrote, “Bunch of junk in the front yard.”

Someone else added, “Common thing for the indigenous lower social classes (and some immigrants) in the UK too.. doesn’t make it any less trashy.. particularly when it is actual trash, old mattresses, etc. and encourages rot, rats, and disease. This can’t be excused as a cultural practice because it most definitely isn’t..”

17. Bad PJs in Public

Your PJs might be cozy, but they’re not meant to face the outside world. When you wear them to the grocery store or the coffee shop, you’re bringing all the germs, sweat, and who-knows-what-else from your bed with you. Ew, right?

One said, “I know it’s very Boomer of me, but sloppy/slouchy pajamas in public. Like dirty flannel pants. I get wanting to be comfy, but darn.”

Another person agreed to it and said, “This is the one. Walking around in PJs in public, with slippers, a worn-out T-shirt, and messy hair like they literally just rolled out of bed. At like 1 pm. So freaking trashy.”

18. Clothes Featuring Drugs

One Redditor stated, “Drug-themed clothing.”

Another added, “Something like a jacket I have with juicewrlds face, and the background is a pool of lean with a bunch of random pills.”

Let’s talk about the messages these clothes send. When you’re decked out in weed leaves, pills, or other drug-related imagery, you’re basically broadcasting the idea that you’re all about that lifestyle. Trust us, that’s not the kind of attention you want.

19. The Kardashians

Now, we get that reality TV isn’t exactly known for its highbrow entertainment, but “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” takes it to a whole new level.

A Reddit user wrote, “Kardashians. Kim Kardashian is the real version.”

Another person agreed to it and said, “And anyone who pays attention to them is obviously trashy too. Too easy”

20. Extramarital Affairs

A discerning Reddit user commented, “Knowingly getting with someone who is in a relationship (especially someone who is married).”

Someone else added, “I was at a party once and listened to this woman BRAG about all the married men she seduced. She went on and on about how she knew that for some of the men, it ruined their marriages. She was absolutely gleeful about it. It was so trashy and disgusting.”

In a healthy relationship, honesty is key. But when you’re cheating, you’re living a double life. You’re lying to your partner, yourself, and anyone else involved in your secret escapades.
