Have you ever read any Colleen Hoover books? If you haven’t, and you enjoy a great romance every now and then, maybe it’s time you pick one up. After all, she’s sold over 20 million copies (and counting!) so she really does have something special going on with her books.
If you’re not already sold on picking up Colleen Hoover as your next author to read, know that her books dominated the top three best-seller spots in 2022, even pushing out popular titles like Atomic Habits and Where the Crawdads Sing.
Now that you’re convinced that Colleen Hoover books should be next on your reading list, where do you start? Whether you’ve picked up one of her popular series like It Ends With Us and are dying for more or are new to reading Colleen Hoover and aren’t sure where to start, this list is for you.
The Best Colleen Hoover Books
The great thing about most Colleen Hoover books is that, other than those in a series, there really isn’t a specific reading order. If you’re new to reading Colleen Hoover books, I recommend instead starting with the best ones.
These picks are partially based on my personal experience and opinion, and partly the overall public opinion of these popular books.
It Ends With Us Series
What a sensation It Ends With Us has been! The first book was so popular that the sequel, It Starts With Us, was Simon & Schuster’s most preordered book ever. Fans of Hoover had to wait a whole eight years between the first and second books, but if you’re new to reading Colleen Hoover you can read this pair back to back.
Summarizing the story of It Ends With Us can’t do it justice. What seems on the surface as a contemporary new adult romance story (country girl moves to the big city and meets a handsome surgeon who’s reluctant to date), it’s anything but ordinary with Colleen Hoover’s captivating writing style that grips the reader into a whirlwind of emotion.
Watch for the It Ends With Us movie hitting theatres sometime in 2024.

Verity
Verity earned second place as Goodreads for Best Romance in 2019 and earned at number 2 spot on the New York Times Best seller list for paperback fiction. Part romance, part mystery and thriller, Verity tells the story of a struggling writer who’s given a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity to ghost write an injured author’s unfinished work.
The manuscript, it turns out, is her autobiography; one that includes some dark secrets that maybe shouldn’t see the light of day.
Fans of the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo will enjoy the similar set up and the way this gripping story unfolds.

Ugly Love
Colleen Hoover’s romance can be touching and emotional, but it can also be hot and steamy as Ugly Love proves. If you found yourself reading 50 Shades of Grey and wanted something more realistic and fleshed out, this book is definitely for you.

Ugly Love | August 5, 2014 | 4.12 |
Reminders of Him
One of Colleen Hoover’s newer books and a bestseller in 2022, Reminders of Him, follows a troubled young mother as she tries to put her life on a better path after serving five years in prison. No one wants her back in her four year old daughter’s life save for a local bar owner. A romance builds, but the real story here is one of healing the past to move forward.

Reminders of Him | January 18, 2022 | 4.44 |

What Ages Are Colleen Hoover Books For?
Colleen Hoover’s books have typically been considered young adult fiction, but as the YA genre grows, the term “new adult” has been recently coined thanks to books like Hoover’s.
Young adult books are for ages 14-18, where new adult follow similar beats as YA but for the 18-29 year old crowd. That being said, if you’re an adult, don’t let a book being for teens or new adults deter you from reading Colleen Hoover!
