Meet the 20 Celebs with the Least Self-Awareness

We all know and adore our favorite stars. Whether they’re actors, musicians, or reality TV personalities, they’ve made it big and are living the glamorous life, right? Well, that’s what they want us to think. Because sometimes, it feels like they’re living on a completely different planet. Like, do they even know what’s going on around them?

One Redditor asked, “Who are the least self-aware celebrities?” This thread has received thousands of comments, but we have selected the top 20 ones for you!

1. Bella Hadid

CANNES, FRANCE - MAY 17: Bella Hadid attends the 'Ismael's Ghosts' premiere and Opening Gala during the 70th Cannes Film Festival on May 17, 2017 in Cannes, France.

Don’t get us wrong, she is drop-dead gorgeous, but sometimes it feels like she’s living in a parallel universe.

A discerning Reddit user commented, “Bella “I wasn’t allowed to have designer clothes till I was a teenager” Hadid.”

Another person shared similar thoughts and mentioned, “Everyone adores Bella, but this moment is all I can see/think of. It’s so hard for me to get past the cringe.”

2. Kendall Jenner

CANNES, FRANCE - MAY 12, 2018: Kendall Jenner attends the screening of 'Girls Of The Sun (Les Filles Du Soleil)' during the 71st annual Cannes Film Festival at Palais des Festivals.

One said, “Kendall Jenner, who said this as recently as a month ago: “I consider myself one of the luckiest people on the planet to be able to live the life that I live, but I do think that it’s challenging for me a lot more than it’s not.””

Another person agreed to it and said, “Yes, because obviously flying private to get paid at least 6 figures for people dressing you in designer clothes and taking flattering photos of you. Soooo challenging people in poverty seem blessed compared to that kind of demanding career”

But here’s the kicker: their idea of a “hard day” is when their cappuccino foam art isn’t Instagram-worthy. Meanwhile, we’re over here dealing with deadlines, bills, and real-life problems.

3. Ben Platt

New York, NY - September 28, 2019: Ben Platt performs on stage during 2019 Global Citizen Festival at Central Park.

Next up, Ben Platt. Talented guy, no doubt about it. But he’s got this knack for making every interview about himself and his “deep” insights into the world.

A Reddit user wrote, “Ben Platt also seems insufferably lacking in self-awareness. He’s totally talented enough, but he demonstrates zero self-awareness when interviewers bring up his dad, the PRODUCER of WICKED.”

Another added, “Ben Platt had a lot of goodwill from his sheer talent..and then he tap danced it away by being so incredibly un-self-aware. I loved him. I saw him on tour. It was a great show. And then Evan Movie happened, and I was just like “…oh, he’s…he’s really not seeing the problems here at all.””

4. Ariana Grande

LOS ANGELES - NOV 16: Ariana Grande at the

Ariana Grande, the powerhouse pop sensation, is another interesting case. She sings about how she’s “thankful” and “humble” in her songs, but then she’s caught licking donuts she didn’t buy and saying she hates America.

One said, “I’m going to go ahead and say Ariana Grande at the moment.”

Another replied, “I haven’t liked her since she licked those donuts. She was so spoiled. She had a little whoopsie-doo on Twitter and let some N-words fly at the guy who directed Hamilton, who is also directing Wicked.”

5. Amy Schumer

New York, NY - August 8, 2018: Amy Schumer attends BlogHer18 creators summit Women inspiring women at Pier 17.

Now, Amy’s known for her raunchy humor, but sometimes she takes it a tad too far. She’ll talk about her bodily functions and personal life like it’s a stand-up comedy routine, forgetting that there’s such a thing as TMI. We appreciate your honesty, Amy, but maybe dial it back a notch.

Someone commented, “I’ll double down on Amy Schumer. When I was struggling with infertility, she was apparently going through similar issues. She joined us. She reached out to us – individually and in groups – through multiple social media platforms.

Another person shared similar thoughts and mentioned, “Amy Schumer also paints herself a “feminist” and was championing for the FOSTA/SESTA laws that put women, and in general all adult workers, in danger, and was what I feel a test of infringing on freedom of speech.

Kamala Harris also championed this, and, well, now we all see the “internet monitoring” ads everywhere. Amy Schumer is a nightmare of a person all around. I wish she’d stop being famous. Can we all just pretend she doesn’t exist until she goes away?”

6. Doja Cat

A discerning Reddit user commented, “Doja Cat. She thinks she’s ultra self-aware, but she is not.”

Another replied, “She has annoyed me since the whole Lorry Hill drama. I don’t remember exactly what she said, but she started attacking Lorry, calling her ugly just because she was speculating about her plastic surgery. I never felt Lorry came from a bad place, especially since she’s outspoken about her own PS.”

Remember that time she went on Instagram Live and just… mooed like a cow for hours? Yeah, we’re still scratching our heads over that one.

7. James Charles

34th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. May 13, 2023, New York, New York, USA: James Charles attends the 2023 GLAAD Media Awards at New York Hilton Midtown on May 13, 2023 in New York City.

James is known for his makeup skills, but he’s also known for some epic social media blunders. From feuds with other influencers to those cringe-worthy apology videos, it’s like he’s always one step away from a scandal.

One said, “James Charles. Gets upset that he won’t get credit for the “pinkety drinkity” from Starbucks even though it was created long before he got famous, proceeds to try and find dates on social media apps when he knew that got him in trouble, admitted he wanted a younger guy when he solicited minors.”

Another person agreed to it and said, “Also, the time he went to the Met Gala and framed it as a great moment of influencer representation like they’re some type of marginalized group.”

8. Alec Baldwin

A Reddit user wrote, “Alec Baldwin’s trans-ethnic senorita comes to mind…”

Another added, “Didn’t Alec go on (and I think produced) a series of interviews with people that killed someone and talked about how hard it’s been for them? Like two months after he killed someone.”

He’s had a long and successful career, but it’s not without its hiccups. Remember that time he got into a heated Twitter feud with a flight attendant?

9. Ellen DeGeneres

LOS ANGELES, CA - SEPTEMBER 4, 2012: Ellen DeGeneres on Hollywood Blvd where she was honored with the 2,477th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Ellen built her career on being the “nice” comedian, but her reputation took a hit when reports surfaced about a toxic work environment on her show.

Someone commented, “Ellen DeGeneres comes to mind. She said being in her house during COVID was like being in prison, and she treated the staff on her show like garbage yet claimed it was like the happiest place on earth.”

Another replied, “Dude, she had to survive COVID with only access to a mid-size gym / acclimatized pool/sauna, and she could only mistreat like 4 employees when she had access to dozens in the TV studio… once their will is broken is not even funny to berate them anymore.”

10. Lena Dunham

New York, NY - March 26, 2019: Lena Dunham attends HBO premiere of VEEP final season at Alice Tully Hall.

She’s known for her work on “Girls,” but she’s also known for some pretty cringe-worthy comments.

One said, “Lena Dunham. Chicks are in a two-way tie for first, imo.”

Another person shared similar thoughts and mentioned, “Lena is a prime example of entitled, annoying, and shallow white feminists. I’ve had the misfortune of meeting her back when I worked in the US.”

11. Chrissy Teigen

LOS ANGELES - JAN 18: Chrissy Teigen at the Lip Sync Battle LIVE: A Michael Jackson Celebration at the Dolby Theater on January 18, 2018 in Los Angeles, CA.

Now, Chrissy’s known for her outspoken and often hilarious social media presence. But sometimes, it feels like she’s forgotten she’s not just tweeting to her BFFs.

A discerning Reddit user commented, “Chrissy Teigen’s Twitter is just full of her not being self-aware, like when she “accidentally” dropped hundreds of dollars on a bottle of wine at a restaurant.”

Another added, “I’m surprised this isn’t a higher-up. Chrissy is so insufferable. Girl, you got your big break holding a briefcase, and you only continue to get attention because you’re married to John Legend. What exactly does she DO, and why do people like her so much? She was always one of the least realistic of these “realistic” celebrities.”

12. Prince Harry

Now, let’s talk about Prince Harry. Don’t get us wrong; we respect his openness about mental health and his dedication to charity work. But it’s a tad ironic when he preaches about privacy while doing tell-all interviews with Oprah.

A Reddit user wrote, “Prince Harry whining about getting the “smaller half” of the room he shared with his brother at Balmoral CASTLE.”

Another replied, “The ” I only have what my mum left me,” which is 10-15 million. They could easily live off that if they used their money wisely. It was such an out-of-touch moment. People were dying of Covid, and he makes this remark.”

13. Will Smith

LONDON, UK. May 09, 2019: Will Smith at the "Aladdin" premiere at the Odeon Luxe, Leicester Square, London.

Will Smith, the Fresh Prince himself, is next on our list. He’s had an impressive career in Hollywood but also had some interesting parenting moments.

One said, “The slap just sorta happened, and they banned Smith. Why would they want an awkwardly worded joke about a cinematographer getting killed on set? I’m all for making morbid jokes, but ya got to make them funny, and you need to know the right setting. She’s so embarrassing.”

Another person agreed to it and said, “They banned him only due to public backlash after giving him a lengthy standing ovation. Disgusting. They didn’t “allow” Will to slap Chris. It just happened.”

14. Kristen Bell

LOS ANGELES - NOV 7: Kristen Bell at the "Frozen 2" LA Premiere at the Dolby Theater on November 7, 2019 in Los Angeles, CA.

A Reddit user wrote, “keeps saying outrageous things about parenting and acting surprised at people’s responses. Unless it is, in fact, self-aware, and they’re doing all of it for attention, which, if they are, those poor kids.”

Another added, “I think Bell thinks it makes them relatable, but it just seems like they’re not the best for each other, and maybe they shouldn’t be together instead of giving everyone advice on how to have a successful marriage.”

It’s all part of the celebrity rollercoaster, right?

15. Dax Shepherd

LOS ANGELES - MAR 3: Dax Shepard arrives at the "Limitless" Los Angeles Screening on March 03, 2011 in Hollywood, CA.

A discerning Reddit user commented, “Dax was so proud of sharing that they don’t regularly bathe their kids. They “wait for the stink” 🤢 so foul.

Another person shared similar thoughts and mentioned, “I cannot stand his need to constantly share… and then complain… and then share… like, just stop.”

From talking about an open relationship with their kids, it seems they’re trying too hard to be the “cool” parents.

16. Meghan Trainor

Someone commented, “Meghan Trainor and her whole thing about teachers. My mom was a teacher, and my aunt and I couldn’t believe it. I mean, I’ve had bad teachers, but seriously??? This was the first thing that came to mind.”

Another replied, “Every time I see Meghan’s Trainor’s name, I like to remind people she has constantly talked bad about Britney Spears while working with all of her conservator people. She’s awful.”

She’s all about that bass, but sometimes it feels like she’s all about herself too.

17. Demi Lovato

Demi’s known for her powerhouse vocals and advocacy for mental health, which is commendable. But it’s hard to ignore the times when she’s been at odds with, well, just about everyone.

One said, “Demi Lovato. I don’t know if it’s a mix of mental health issues, her being a child actress, the drug use, the desperation for media attention, or all of the above, but she really does seem to lack self-awareness.”

Another person agreed to it and said, “Remember when she posted about some ice cream shop having sugar or fat-free options (I think, I can’t remember which) and called it enabling eating disorders? The business owner pointed out that some people also had food sensitivities or diabetes. She tried to call out this business because she was offended by their ice cream options.”

18. Kim Kardashian

A Reddit user wrote, “Kum Kardashian saying “Get up and work”…Absolutely delusional baring in mind she made her money from selling an adult video her Mother approved of.”

Another added, “This one gets me. I already really dislike the worshiping of the Kardashians. Now I gotta hear them lecture me?”

She’s built an empire on her reality TV stardom, but sometimes it feels like she’s living in a bubble. Posting endless selfies and glamorous shots while the world faces real issues?

19. Matt Damon

LOS ANGELES, OCT 22ND, 2017: Close up of actor Matt Damon on the red carpet at the Suburbicon premiere held at the Village Theatre in Westwood, Los Angeles, California.

One said, “Matt Damon, in a magazine interview, talked about the teaching moment he received from his daughter last year that made him realize the slur isn’t appropriate even if you’re being humorous or ironic. It was supposed to come off as “I’m learning and growing every day,” and instead, it just proves there is no accountability in Hollywood if he didn’t know you can’t say that word.”

Another replied, “That, plus him going in hard on NFTs was when I realized he sucked. Which is a shame cause I have really enjoyed some of his films.”

He’s had a long and successful career, but he’s also had some interesting takes on social issues. Remember when he tried to explain diversity to a black female producer?

20. Jennifer Lawrence

VENICE, ITALY - SEPTEMBER 05: Jennifer Lawrence attends the red carpet of the movie 'Mother!' during the 74th Venice Film Festival on September 5, 2017 in Venice, Italy.

Jennifer Lawrence is the lovable and relatable Hollywood sweetheart. But even she’s had her moments of foot-in-mouth syndrome.

A discerning Reddit user commented, “For me, it’s Jennifer Lawrence. I saw an interview with her and Chris Pratt on a movie they did together. She was explaining how they were filming in an indigenous community in Hawaii (I believe). The native people were telling her that it was disrespectful in their culture to sit or move rocks near a certain cliff (or something to that effect)

I believe because they represented ancestors or something super important like that. She not only was making fun of that, but she said she purposefully rubbed her back on one rock, which dislodged it and nearly hurt someone. I have not been able to see her or anything she has done without thinking about that since.”

Another person shared similar thoughts and mentioned, “She’s always given off “not like other girls” vibes, and how ironic is it that she’s friends with the person in this post, demonstrating behavior I would expect from a non-educated person from Kentucky.”
