There are a lot of advantages to having e-readers or kindles for your kids. Children need access to books, and it’s so important to encourage kids to read as much as possible. I love it when my kids are curled up, reading the best children’s books!
Kindles and other e-readers can easily provide kids with access to books they wouldn’t necessarily have. If the libraries are closed, or you can’t get out and want to read new books, then e-books are definitely the way to go! If you are homeschooling on a budget, you will need all the resources you can get. Finding free online books for your kids will open up vistas that they won’t necessarily get if you stick to physical books. Reading books online is a great way to get your kids into reading.

Library
The library is the first place to look for books! Libraries have come into the digital age and offer free online books for kids to download on the e-reader of your choice. This works exactly like the regular library with one major extra perk: since the books are automatically returned, there are no late fees, which is pretty awesome if you are like my kids and me and not always very organized. Different libraries use different online platforms such as Overdrive, Hoopla, or Tumble, so check out your local library’s website today and get borrowing!
Amazon has a ton of free kids’ books available for Kindle downloads. Just search for “children’s books, Kindle edition” and sort price “low to high” to see all the freebies. This is great even if you don’t have an amazon prime account. Just like Amazon is the place to get books, they are also the go-to place for free kids’ books online.
Immerse your children in pre-K through fifth grade in bilingual reading by signing up for Read Conmigo, a fully digital platform. This platform also has tons of activities and educational resources. We just signed up for this and are very pleased with the free online books that they offer.
The program also offers free eBooks that are compatible with most Apple iOS, Amazon Kindle, and Android devices.
While mostly for older kids, Project Gutenberg has a lot of free kid’s books online available.

The website is a little dated, making it a bit difficult to deal with, but you can search for books on there.
One of the best places to look for free online books for kids is at Goodreads. You can look at different lists created for free books online for kids to find books that you want your kids to read. Goodreads also has lots of giveaways that you can enter to win free books from the authors you love
Freechildrenstories.com provides best-selling children’s stories for kids of all ages for free. You can find stories for a wide range of age groups on this website, from 3 to 5 to 8 to 10. You can browse by age and also by style, which is a nice touch. They have stories in English, Spanish, and Arabic.
Magic Keys has illustrated children’s stories for kids of all ages. This website has lots of games, puzzles, cartoons, coloring pages, and riddles to help with literacy. They also have a whole section of Children’s Storybooks Online, which features tons of free books online for kids. They also have some young adult fiction. You can read the free books online on the computer or with a tablet- you cannot download the books.

Children’s Books Online is a fascinating website. They have copies of old books- all published before 1930. They are working on translating the books into various languages, including Latin, Yiddish, and Esperanto. The site is a bit dated and old. The downloading instructions are a bit lengthy and detailed (think zip files of pdfs), but this is a great place to get antique books for your children. If there is an old book from your childhood that you are looking for, then this is the place for you! No more searching used books, stores or flea shops, or garage sales. These books are now available for free online for your kids (or you!) to read.
From their website: Bibliomania has thousands of e-books, poems, articles, short stories, and plays, all of which are absolutely free. You can read the world’s greatest fiction by authors such as Dickens and Joyce, Sherlock Holmes mysteries, all of Shakespeare’s plays, or dip into some short stories by writers such as Mark Twain, Anton Chekov, and Edgar Allan Poe. Digilibraris.com is a free e-books library with a great kids section for you to get free books online for kids. The awesome thing about this is that the site is really easy to navigate and that they offer a whole bunch of download options and formats that work on an iPad, iPhone, Nook, Kindle, and Sony Reader. Once you download the books, you can switch to an offline option to read the books even when you don’t have access to the internet. Great place to stock up on books before a road trip! There is a limit of 50 e-book downloads a day.
Looking for free animated e-books for your kids? Look no further! Kids World Fun has a great selection of free animated online books for kids. They also have games, videos, activities, and other online resources to help your children read. You can read it on their website or download it to your computer or tablet to further view and read.
This isn’t the best website for free books online for kids because they only offer one free book online a month. But one free book is one free book! We don’t scoff at saving a dime, and we don’t scoff at one free book either. They have books in many languages such as English, Spanish, French and Italian. You can also buy access passes that give you unlimited access to all the books.
Oxford Owl has a free eBooks collection developed for children aged 3–11 years old. You can browse by age or reading level and read all the books on a computer, laptop, or tablet.
Storyline Online is not a place to read book s but rather to have books read to you. They don’t provide the books, but they do have a whole selection of books being read by celebrities, including Oprah Winfrey, Chris Pine, Kristen Bell, Rita Moreno, Viola Davis, Jaime Camil, Kevin Costner, Lily Tomlin, Sarah Silverman, Betty White, Wanda Sykes, out loud. this is great for pre-readers or early readers to read along. as per their website, “Reading aloud to children has been shown to improve reading, writing and communication skills, logical thinking and concentration, and general academic aptitude, as well as inspire a lifelong love of reading. “
Open Library is part of the Internet archive and works to make published works available to everyone. They have a great kids section with different books available to read in different formats.
Do you have a Nook? Well, then you better run and go check out the Barnes and Nobles free kid’s eBooks lists where they have free children’s books online available to be read on your Nook or Nook app.’
Monkey Pen is a company that sells personalized children’s books, and with the profit, has made thousands of free children’s books available to kids around the world. The books are available to download free of charge.
Funbrain offers hundreds of games, books, comics, and videos that develop math, reading, problem-solving, and literacy skills. This includes free online books for kids. These books aren’t downloadable. You have to read them on Funbrains’ website.

This is the place to look. Just click “Free and Discounted Children’s eBooks and Novels list” and pick any book that says free next to it!
Centsless Books doesn’t have the actual books; instead, they have a list of free-eBooks currently on Amazon. This is a great resource if you don’t have time to go through Amazon yourself, saving you time (which is sometimes even better than money!)
Ebook Daily lists one free e-book a day from amazon. This isn’t the most comprehensive or best place to get free e-books, but hey, why not?
The Savvy Bump has a list of free children’s books online. Like some of the other sites, they don’t actually offer the books; they link you out to another site where you can then get the book for free. It is a good curating site, so it’s worth listing here.
Amazon Prime Kindle Owners’ Lending Library

You can’t always get away with free free! After all, if you are going to spend money, it should be on things that bring you joy, like reading!
Kindle Unlimited– you can get this even without a prime membership. You should, for sure, try the free trial period and see if it works for you!

They have a free 30-day trial for parents, and it’s totally free for educators. This is really great if you are planning on doing at-home learning or homeschooling this year. GetEpic has over 40,000 children’s books online, including picture books and originals. They have books in Spanish, French, and Chinese.
Scribd– has unlimited free online books for kids and audiobooks, and tons of magazines when you sign up for their subscription. They have a free 30-day trial.
