As busy moms, sometimes our minds are all over the place. Can you relate? We’re constantly thinking about what to make next for dinner, if they brushed their teeth, how they’re doing in school, how much laundry there is, and the list is honestly never-ending.
Even though we’re busy, it’s vital that we take time out for our kids. Our kids need us to see them, truly see them. We get so wrapped up in things as moms that sometimes, we just need to slow down. The dishes can wait. The heap of laundry can wait. Everyone else can wait.
But your kids, they need you.
Here are some simple things you can do to bond with your children when you’re busy!
1. Get Outside
Our family are all true homebodies. For the most part, we’re indoors. However, our kids love getting outside. They love taking walks around the neighborhood. This is a great way not only to enjoy time with your kids but to be active as well. There are so many things that you can do outside, and it’s pretty endless.
The best part is that you can control it…is it just a quick walk, or are you going to make an afternoon or day out of it? Some things the kids can do at home are:
- Going for a walk
- Ride scooters
- Bike rides
- Playing with chalk
- Swimming (you can get a pool at Walmart very cheap!)
But as I said, you can totally control if it’s going to be quick or if you plan to spend more time outside. Either way, they will love it!
2. Be Active Together
As moms, we all get some activity every single day. However, it’s really important to stay active (which is one of my personal goals as a busy mom), and you can do so with your kids! Kids are naturally active; there is no doubt about that.
But spending time being physically active as far as doing quick, kid-oriented workouts is great too! Here are some ways that you can be active:
- Going for a run (if you have older children, this may work better)
- Doing yoga
- Doing light exercises
- Going swimming
Whichever you choose, you are not only spending more time with your kids, but you’re being active!Â
3. Watch a Family Television Show
Ooooh, this may just be my favorite on the list. My daughters and I absolutely love watching family shows together. It’s just so fun, and I love seeing them laugh, get excited, and have fun. Here are some of our personal favorite family TV shows!
- Holey Moley (This one is a whole family favorite! Even my hubby loves this one!)
- The Masked Dancer
- The Masked Singer
- American Idol
- Ultimate Tag (I’m not sure if this still has new episodes?! It was such a great show!)
- America’s Got Talent
- Beat Shazaam
And I am sure I’m missing a bunch!
4. Watch a Movie
Watching movies is a great way to bond, especially the ones with a great message. We love talking to the kids about what they watched and what they learned. We love fun ones too! Here are some family fun movies that we have loved recently:
- Luca
- Marshalls VS The Machines
- Raya And The Last Dragon
- The Willoughbys
- Animal Crackers
And let’s not forget every Disney movie EVER! You can’t ever go wrong with Disney. We also love Pixar and Dreamworks too!
5. Clean Together
When you’re a busy mom (especially if you have multiple kids like me!), there are messes everywhere. Always. We all know that we can clean a room from top to bottom, and 30 minutes later, it’s trashed (or close).
Cleaning with your kids is a great way to teach them responsibility. You’re bonding with your children and also cleaning in the process… which is most definitely a win/win!
6. Ask Each Other Questions
One of the things my oldest daughter loves to do is ask questions. “Mom, who’s your favorite singer?”,
“Mom, would you rather have pizza or hot dogs” are just a few examples of the questions she likes to ask. We go from silly to more serious, too.
It just depends on the vibe of the conversation. I love it when they ask me questions, and I enjoy asking them questions. (It’s on our list to actually do a YouTube video of this!)
So, start a conversation. Ask a silly question. Get into some serious ones. Nothing is sweeter than getting to know your child’s likes and dislikes!
7. Go to the Park
Everyone loves going to the park! Okay, maybe not everyone, but kids love it! I love taking the kids to the park (sometimes) and seeing them play and run around. It burns off energy and helps them be active in the process!
Sometimes we even like to go to a new park that we either haven’t been to in a while or one that we haven’t been to before!
Make it special! Bring drinks and snacks!
8. Have a Dance Party
Everything is better with a dance party! Turn on some familiar tunes (or even some new ones) and dance it out!
9. Let Your Kids Help With Dinner
So, this one is something all of the kids can get behind. All of my kids love helping. Whenever the time is appropriate, I like to let them help with basic things they can do in the kitchen! Sometimes it’s stirring; sometimes, it’s getting the plates ready!
But either way, they love it.
10. Take a Walk
The most important thing you can do as a family is to spend time together. When you need to reconnect with your children, take a quick walk around the block. Even if you don’t have anything to discuss, this is a great time to remind your kids that no matter what, you are there for them, and there is always a line of communication open to them.
You’ll be surprised how much kids share when you are just walking around. Making this a ritual is a great way to really bond with your children, and it does not need to take a long time.Â
Ways to Bond With Your Children When You’re Busy
As moms, we really are so busy, no matter how many kids we have. Sometimes things get overwhelmingly crazy. However, in those moments, we should embrace it, and there are always ways to bond with your children when you’re busy.
Find what works for you; maybe it’s a multitude of things on this list, and do them!
What is your favorite way to bond with your children when you’re busy?! I’d love to know in the comments!
