5 Services That Gen X Spends Money on That Millennials and Gen Z Don’t

Generation X or Gen X members were born from 1965 to 1980, and compared to Millennials who were born from 1981 to 1996 and Gen Z, who were born anywhere from 1997 to 2010, they have a lot of their own distinctive traits that differ from the rest.

Gen X is known to be self-reliant and individual beings who grew from the independence they were given at young ages. It’s no secret that every generation has different ways of doing things, and that’s no different when it comes to their spending habits. Read on to learn more about the services that Gen X spends money on that Gen Z and Millenials don’t.

Millennials

1. Dry Cleaning

Gen Z and Millenials don’t even iron their clothes nowadays because the times have changed, and most people are no longer required to wear suits to work. However, even though dry cleaning services are diminishing in the 21st century (and this is especially true after the COVID-19 pandemic), the only generations that are spending money on these services are Boomers and Gen X.

2. Cable TV

Gen X is the generation that was pretty much raised by television. Their Boomer generation parents had to work long, arduous hours, and the best way to keep these youngsters entertained at the time was to place them in front of TVs. Gen X grew up with cable TV, so it really shouldn’t come as a surprise that they choose to spend their money on it because perhaps it reminds them of the good ol’ days. Millennials and Gen Z would much rather spend their money on streaming services.

3. Landlines

Pretty much everyone has a smartphone nowadays, but that doesn’t really stop Gen X from investing in landline phones. This is also something that they grew up with, unlike Gen Z’s. Millennials may have had landlines in the first few years of their lives, but they don’t necessarily spend money on landlines because they know that all can be done on their personal smartphones. Gen Z members already spend a lot of time on their smartphones, and there is no need for them to invest in landlines.

4. Printed Newspapers and Magazines

Gen X still uses printed media such as magazines and newspapers to get their daily doses of updates or simply for entertainment purposes. Millennials and Gen Z, on the other hand, rarely buy printed press as they can simply get all their daily updates from the platforms on their smartphones. The younger generations also don’t see the need to pay for these forms of media or entertainment when you can simply get most of these things online for free.

5. Full Coverage Insurance

Full coverage insurance for one’s home and car is another thing that Gen X will spend money on, but younger generations won’t. This could be due to the fact that Gen X members have more money in general and, therefore, have more expensive cars and homes, which they feel need decent insurance plans.
