Luxury Travel on a Budget: How To Do More With Less

Who doesn’t dream of a flight in business class, some champagne upon arrival at your dream destination, and waking up with an amazing view?

Have you ever wondered how to go on one of these amazing vacations you see all over Instagram without blowing your budget?

Luckily, there are many useful tips and travel hacks on how to make more out of your vacation, even on a smaller budget.

Keep on reading my ten best luxury travel on a budget hacks and make the most out of your next trip!

Use Airline Reward Programs

Airline miles and reward programs! This is probably one of the most common luxury travel hacks out there, yet many people are still not participating in Airline reward programs. This is a very easy way to upgrade your vacation – without actually having to pay for it.

Pick an airline you like and sign up for their Frequent Flyer program. When you pick the airline, make sure they service most of the destinations you are interested in and the main airport you travel from. Many airlines are part of a bigger reward network with other airlines, so I recommend checking the partner airlines as well.

After you sign up with a program, try to stick with your airline and their partner airline as much as possible. Also, make sure to connect the program with your credit card provider. This way, you earn miles and points with all your everyday purchases.

Try putting as many things as possible on your credit card instead of paying with cash. Once you have accumulated a bunch of miles, you can redeem free upgrades or airline tickets.

To enjoy Frequent Flyer programs, even more, keep on reading their regular newsletters. There will be many amazing offers for frequent flyers, such as cheap reward tickets and exclusive sales.

Over time, as your status increases, many more rewards will be unlocked, and you can enjoy benefits, such as free luggage and better seats. To learn more about Frequent Flyer programs, check out this post.

Use Hotel and Car Rental Reward Programs

Join other reward programs! Not only airlines offer reward programs, but also booking platforms and hotel chains. Companies like Expedia, Marriott, and Hilton Hotels have similar programs that you should definitely make use of if you wanna do luxury travel on a budget.

Make sure to sign up during your first booking with one of the programs and then try to use the same one as much as possible. Once you have earned a better status, you will get free upgrades and discounts on your bookings.

For some programs, you can even claim your reward points in hindsight, so if you have traveled to a qualifying hotel in the past, make sure to add the trip. Before committing to a program, check out if they have properties in your favorite travel destinations.

Use a Credit Card

Credit Card hacks!

Firstly, there is credit card insurance to think about. If you make more than one trip per year, it makes sense to subscribe to a credit card with included travel insurance.

This way, all your travels are covered by credit card insurance, and you save a lot of money that you would otherwise spend on rental car insurance, lost luggage insurance, and travel healthcare.

Another great perk of going with a more expensive credit card program is airport lounges. If you travel a couple of times per year, this can really pay off.

Most bigger airports have lounges that you can access with certain credit card reward programs. You can eat and drink there for free, which can save you a lot of money on your layovers as well.

Make Your Money Worth  More

Travel where your money is worth more!

Check exchange rates and pick destinations with a relatively low standard of living. You will probably be able to afford the best hotels there and enjoy more luxury than you ever could in a more popular destination.

This is one of the most underrated luxury travel budget hacks, but it can save you a whole lot of money.

Do It Yourself

Cut out the travel agent! By doing your research yourself, you can cut out the middleman and save a lot of money that you would otherwise pay the agency in commissions.

Also, you might even find better deals online since you will have more time to look at and monitor the prices.

Travel Out of Season

Travel out of season! Avoid high season for your travels, and you can go to amazing hotels for a fraction of the price. Also, airline tickets will be much cheaper outside shoulder season.

Use the Fork App

Fine dining on a budget! Ever heard of an app called the fork? The app allows you to book a table at fabulous restaurants in every bigger city with huge discounts.

You can read reviews, make reservations and redeem fabulous offers – all in one app.

Consider All-Inclusive

Go All-Inclusive, but only if it makes sense. Check ahead of time how expensive food and drinks in your destination really are and how easy they are to come by.

If you think you will need more per day than what the All-Inclusive package will cost you, then go for it.

This is also a psychological trick because if you have paid for things already, you might be more inclined to really spoil yourself. Otherwise, you see the prices every time you order something, and you might start skimping out.

Plan Ahead

Book things ahead of time. Unless you find an amazing last-minute deal, I suggest booking things way ahead of time. This way, you have a wider choice of activities and hotels, and the prices are usually lower.

Skip the Budget Airlines

Don’t go budget airline. This is probably my favorite way to practice luxury travel on a budget.

At first glance, going with a more expensive airline does not make sense. However, many cheaper airlines, like Ryanair, Eurowings, etc., will make you pay for every single bonus option you might need on your flight.

This includes extra baggage, meals, and drinks on the plane, as well as sitting next to your travel companion. In the end, you might pay more in total than you would on a fancier airline, plus the service and comfort on board are way lower.

These are my favorite luxury travel on a budget hacks – they will not only save you a lot of money but also open some opportunities for extra comfort during your journey.
