How To Stay Cool in Extreme Heat Without a Fan or Air Conditioning

Thanks to global warming, we keep on experiencing rising temperatures, and this can, unfortunately, make summers quite hot and dreary. It’s all good when we are cooling down somewhere in a pool or if we can manage to crack an air con or even a fan, but sometimes we don’t have these options, and we just have to sit through it whether we like it or not.

Luckily, there are a few things that can be done to alleviate the heat of summer when you don’t have access to a fan or air-con. To learn more about the practical ways in which you stay cool without a fan, read on.

1. Sleep With  a Wet Sheet

If you are struggling with sleep because it is simply too hot and the only thing you can do is drink water and sweat, then perhaps you can try wetting your sheet before bed. This will hopefully prevent you from sweating too much while keeping you nice and cool during a hot, sweltering summer’s night.

2. Have Frozen Water Bottles Stashed in Your Freezer

If you are always getting super hot and still haven’t found a solution to help you cool down, you may need to turn to frozen water bottles. It’s a good idea to have several bottles handy in the freezer as you can use them to sip on icy water when you are feeling too hot, and you can even put the ice-cold bottle on certain body parts to cool down. Cover the bottle with a damp cloth and place it over your neck or other pressure points on your body when you feel like you really need to cool down.

3. Stick to Cotton

You would be better off wearing cotton in the heat of summer as this fabric is known to be more breathable, and this aspect is what aids your body in cooling down more efficiently on a hot summer’s day. Also, opt for clothing that is light and loose-fitting. Vouching for cotton bedding is also a good idea in the hot summer months.

4. Have a Spray Bottle Handy

It’s always a good idea to have a spray bottle filled with water handy in the hot months of summer. Whenever you feel overwhelmingly hot, you can just spray a few drops of water over your body, and voila, you’ll feel instantly cooled down.

5. Lay on the Floor

When you feel super hot and have run out of options to cool down, you can try lying down on a cold, tiled floor. It may seem weird at first, but hey, desperate times call for desperate measures, don’t they? Floors are always cooler as heat rises, and this is especially true for tiled or concrete floors.

6. Don’t Manually Paper Fan Yourself

It may be tempting to fan yourself out with a hand fan, but this will make you feel hotter, as you’ll be pushing your body temperature up with the motions of fanning yourself. It would be ideal to try our aforementioned tips before you go for this option.
