It would appear tourists are seeking out quieter beaches to escape the crowds, with Google Trends highlighting a 166% search increase for ‘hidden beaches’ worldwide!
Sun Bingo has found the answer to those wanting a more peaceful beach experience, having collated a unique seed list of 37 of the world’s best ‘hidden’ beaches, extracting individual Instagram hashtags to find the least tagged beaches, officially ranking the best secret beaches to visit this summer and the US has the best ‘hidden’ beach in the world, Shelter Cove in California!
- Shelter Cove in California is a hidden gem undiscovered by many, with just 124 Instagram hashtags, making it the best ‘hidden beach’ to visit.
- The US has the most beaches featured, totaling nine with over 420,000 collective hashtags, compared to Bulgaria with just one beach featured and only 259 hashtags.
- Cala Goloritzè in Italy is just one of two Italian beaches to feature, placing second with 188 Instagram hashtags.

At the top of the list is Shelter Cove in California, US with only 124 Instagram hashtags. With its black sand, this is a picturesque beach, unlike any others you’ve seen. It is just one of four found in the US in the top 20, making it a hidden gem worth discovering for a unique experience.
In second place is Cala Goloritzè in Ogliastra, Italy with 188 Instagram hashtags. This beach was created by a landslide in 1962 and is famous for its high pinnacle of 143 meters above the cove. With just two Italian beaches featured in the study, it is a stunning beach at the base of a deep and pleasant ravine that’ll be sure to be a quiet and serene location.
In third place is Lipite Beach in Burgas, Bulgaria, with 259 Instagram hashtags. There are 84 beaches in the Burgas region, but this isolated beach is a great place for visitors to enjoy the peace and quiet away from crowded tourist beaches. It might be relatively small, but with crystal clear water and golden sand, surrounded by beautiful hills and forests, it’s the perfect beach to relax.
