International Self-Care Day is celebrated on July 24, 2025, emphasizing the importance of self-care for overall health and well-being.
Personal well-being should be one of everyone’s top priorities, but sadly, for most of us, it rarely is. Between juggling family, careers, and all the other responsibilities and obligations we have to fulfill, self-care sometimes gets given the back seat.
It may seem daunting to find ways to better incorporate self-care practices into your life, but with a little bit of time and effort, it really doesn’t have to be.
Here are six ways to celebrate International Self-Care Day by taking care of yourself!

1. Journaling
Journaling is a great, low-cost habit that you can incorporate into your life if you’d like to improve the way that you take care of yourself. There are several benefits to grabbing a pen and scribbling one’s thoughts down on paper, and they include increased awareness and reduced stress. Journaling is a great way to slow down and articulate all the things that may be weighing down on you.
2. Exercise
Exercising is one of the best ways to improve and embrace self-care. It’s no secret that exercise holds so many benefits that affect the mind and the body. No one is saying that you have to sign up for an hour of spinning class or get an annual gym membership.
Getting exercise includes going for a walk around the block, too. It’s crucial to form a habit of exercising if you’d like to see the benefits work over a long period of time.
3. Create an Evening Routine
Getting a good night’s sleep is one of the cornerstones of self-care, and sometimes, our sleep may get impacted by distractions that overstimulate us before bed. Establishing a healthy evening routine that aids you in getting a good night’s rest can aid in healthy sleep every night.
This may look a little something like practicing breathing exercises or meditation before bed. Avoiding screen time before bed is another great way to reduce overstimulation before bed.
4. Keep a Water Bottle Handy
Staying hydrated is another thing that many people don’t do despite this being one of the best ways to practice self-care. If you don’t have a reusable water bottle, then now may be a good time to invest in one. By taking a water bottle with you everywhere you go, you are less likely to forget to stay hydrated.
5. Declutter
A cluttered home leads to a cluttered mind, and the best way to fix this is to make a habit of cleaning as you go and practicing regular decluttering when you find that your immediate environment is getting too cluttered.
6. Create Social Media Boundaries
It’s so easy to let social media use take over our lives. Social media platforms are designed to keep us locked on the platforms, which isn’t always a good thing. If you are left feeling empty or like social media is wasting a lot of your time and making you envy material things, then it may be time to scale back with it and set boundaries for how much you spend on it.
