Trump took to Truth Social, calling on Republicans to prepare Congress for his return as president in “one and half years”. Despite all his legal troubles, Trump is still actively campaigning to be president.
He also said they will “put them all in jail” when he is president again.
The Post
Trump wrote on Truth Social, “Right now Republicans in Congress and the Senate have to get tough, and put everything together in one big, neat package, because I will be President in one and a half years, and we will pick the strongest, toughest, and most respected Attorney General, and if guilty, we will put them all in jail where they belong, just as they are trying to do to me based on NOTHING.”
Trump Georgia Indictment
Last month, a Fulton County grand jury handed down indictments against former President Trump and 18 co-defendants. These charges are tied to an alleged conspiracy aimed at overturning the 2020 election results in Georgia, which saw President Joe Biden emerge victorious. It’s worth noting that all the defendants in this case have entered pleas of not guilty.
Legal Troubles
Trump faces a total of 4 criminal cases with various charges leveled against him in different courts and jurisdictions, including Georgia, New York, Florida, and Washington, D.C. Despite all these pending court cases, Trump is still claiming to run for President. Various legal experts and activist groups are calling into question whether Trump can even run for President with all his legal issues. If he is convicted, the Supreme Court will probably have to decide these cases.
Calls for Disqualification
Campaign group MoveOn created a petition in November that calls for government officials to disqualify Trump from the 2024 presidential election on the grounds of violating the Constitution.
Within two weeks of its creation, the petition gained 50,000 signatures, and as of Monday, more than 125,000 people have signed. MoveOn is hoping to garner 200,000 signatures. The petition alleges that Trump’s actions during and after the Capitol riot on January 6th violate the Fourteenth Amendment.
As of this writing, 414,568 people have signed the petition.
