An Open Letter To Busy Moms Everywhere

If you’ve stumbled across this blog, chances are that you are a busy mom like me! I’m a mom of 5, and let me tell you…it is hard! It’s not easy. It’s no walk in the park. It’s not all rainbows and butterflies all of the time.

I started this blog to encourage my fellow busy moms like you. What we do, is amazing. Our strength to care for our kids is next to none! So I’m here to tell you that you are doing a great job. You are incredible in the amount of work that you take on. Here are eight important things you should know from one busy mom to another! From the busy working mom to the busy stay-at-home mom, this article is for you!

1. You Matter

Do you sometimes feel like nothing you do matters? Well, the truth is…you DO matter! Everything that you do for your children matters. Whether you’re an expecting mom, a first-time mom, or a mom of multiples like me, it all matters.

Don’t ever second guess your worth. You are important, and your children need you!

2. Your Feelings Are Valid

Sometimes as a new mom or as a mom of multiples, we feel crazy. Chaotic. Or is that just me? I don’t think it is, so if you are like me and feel like your feelings either don’t matter or you just put it on the backburner…they matter.

I know, because I’ve been there! And we all need reminders that our feelings are valid. So, I’m here to tell you that they are. They are indeed valid.

I encourage you to open up. Open up to your family and friends, and if you need extra help, please make a doctor’s appointment. Your mental health is so important.

3. You Can Do Hard Things

All of these are constant reminders, but this one especially. Things may seem hard. Just think of all of the things you do in a day. I know for me, I drop all 5 of my kids off for school. I work a full-time job. I cook dinner. I clean up (well, I try my best), give them baths, and put the kids to bed.

That’s not to mention the endless loads of laundry. The nonstop talking, go-getting, and craziness. The times when you don’t get a minute to yourself. But you can do hard things! You were made for this.

4. Make Time for Yourself

When you’re a mom, again, whether you’re a mom of one, or five like me, time to yourself is very scarce. My kids are with me 24/7, for the most part. When my kids are in school, I get about seven uninterrupted hours. But I am working full time during that time, so I really don’t consider that “time for myself.”

Other than that, my kids are with me all of the time. So my only true time to myself is either when we get a sitter (which is not often), or when the kids are asleep. I take that time and do the things I enjoy, like watching my long list of medical shows.

You are important, and the things that you like to do are too. So what brings you joy? Netflixing after a long day? Taking a long bath? Writing? Maybe a glass of wine? Whatever makes you happy, try to do that.

We busy moms have a lot on our plates all of the time. It’s so important to do the things that make us happy. For me, it’s writing, watching moves or TV, and playing video games with my husband.

So think about what that looks like for you and make it happen!

5. Don’t Forget To Ask For Help When You Need It

This one is super important. Don’t forget to ask for help when you need it. Busy moms are a rare breed. We are cooking, cleaning, planning, and working. Not to mention being a wife and a good mom, we have to take care of ourselves, too!

Ask for help when you need it. If you need a nap, ask. If you need to take a shower, or a 20-minute bathroom break (because we all need those sometimes), ask!

Now, we all have different situations. Maybe you have no family or friends that you can ask. That is where your community comes in! Try and make friends with other moms who are going through similar things as you!

The point is don’t be afraid to ask for help. Personally, it’s still hard even to ask my siblings for help. I like to take it all on and handle it. But sometimes, we really need to breathe, and we need that break.

6. Remember You Are More Than a Mom

Being a busy mom is so chaotic that sometimes, we forget that we are more than a mom. We forget who we were before we had children. Our life starts over after we have children, so it’s no secret that we give it everything we got.

But remember that you are more than a mom.

7. Always Be Yourself

This goes just a little hand in hand with remembering that you are more than a mom. Sometimes we hold ourselves to these high standards. With social media and imposter syndrome just a  few of our obstacles, it can be easy to compare. We compare our lives to that perfect Instagram post that we saw.

But we must remember: how long it took them to get that perfect photo? How long did it take them to clean up that mess for that perfect kitchen shot? Do they have nannies that help? Because my house definitely is not spotless.

Remember that you are you and no one else. And your children love you for that.

8. You Are Made in God’s Image

If you take away anything from this article, please, take away this. You are perfection in God’s image. You are the perfect creation of His. I know sometimes we all struggle with things we wish we could change or do better, but the truth is God made us just how he intended to.

So remember these eight things when your busy mom status has you crazy:

  1. You matter
  2. Your feelings are valid
  3. You can do hard things
  4. Make time for yourself
  5. Don’t forget to ask for help when you need it
  6. Remember that you are more than a mom
  7. Always be yourself
  8. You are made in God’s image

I’m also here to tell you that you are great, just the way that you are, busy mom and all. Don’t for a second forget!
