Lauren Boebert, one of the U.S. Representatives for Colorado, who has become notorious for her right-wing rhetoric and her MAGA allegiances, has filed for divorce from her husband. They have been married for almost two decades and have four children.
Divorce Announcement
The staunch and outspoken rep for Colorado’s 3rd congressional district announced her divorce from her husband, Jayson, on Tuesday, ending their over one-and-a-half decades marriage. They have four sons. The eldest, a 17-year-old, is expecting a child with his girlfriend, which will make Lauren a grandmother at 36 years. Lauren cited irreconcilable differences when announcing the divorce.
Written Statement
In a written statement that was first reported by the Colorado Sun, Lauren said, “It is with a heavy weight on my heart that I have filed for divorce from my husband.
I am grateful for our years of marriage together and for our beautiful children, all of whom deserve privacy and love as we work through this process. I’ve always been faithful in my marriage, and I believe strongly in marriage, which makes this announcement that much more difficult.
“This is truly about irreconcilable differences,” she added, “I do not intend to discuss this matter any further in public out of respect for our children, and will continue to work hard to represent the people of Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District.”
A Lot of Questions
Lauren and her family live in Colorado and had operated a restaurant in Rifle before it was closed last summer as the lease was not renewed. Lauren was re-elected by a slight margin of 546 votes after a recount with th Democrat Adam Frisch.
Her divorce statement and subsequent scrutiny by the press and social community generated a lot of attention over the last couple days. Members of the Reddit community also had a lot of opinions about the MAGA supporter and her troubled marriage.
The Age of Consent
One pulled up a statement she made several years back concerning her relationship with the father of her kids.
“He just took my breath away. I fell in love with Jayson immediately, and I knew, without doubt, that he was the man I was meant to be with — for better or for worse — forever.
“She also wrote that they did not break any Colorado laws while they were dating and that her mother approved of their relationship. The age of consent in Colorado is 17,” added the user.
Another member stated, “The age of consent in Colorado is not a blanket 17 years across the board. There is a close in age exception which states that 15 and 16 year olds can lawfully engage in sexual behavior with another individual up to 10 years older and those 14 and younger can have {relations} with someone up to 4 years older. I don’t personally agree with that range but a 16 and 24 year old can legally have {relations} in Colorado.”
Broke the Law
One reminded her that her husband had broken the law before, “He broke the law when he was 23 and drunk and exposed himself in a bowling alley and became belligerent when the manager told him to leave.”
“Her sex-offender husband? Who showed his {censored} to underaged girls—of whom Boebert was numbered?” pointed out another person.
Adultery
Lauren maintained she was faithful, and a member supported her actions saying, “In the Bible itself, there’s an exception for adultery: if one partner cheats or is otherwise “sexually immoral,” the marriage can come to an end.”
On the same note, another wondered if that was the Christian thing to do, “I wonder how her Christian constituents feel about her filing for divorce. Aren’t they against that sort of thing?”
Messy?
Some hoped that the divorce would be interesting, “Please let there be a bitter, nasty divorce that plays itself out in the press.”
Lauren’s marriage may have come to an end, but she is still a congressman with an obligation to the community. This divorce may draw some blood because Jayson did not take it too well.
How this will affect her career and personal life is anyone’s guess, but you can be assured that we will have several interesting weeks as we follow Lauren’s story.
