Florida Joins the ‘Woke’ Movement? Emergency Alert Tests Sparks Anger… And Some Jokes

Angry Floridians were woken up at 4:50 am with an emergency alert on their phones…. only to see that the alert was actually just a test.

Grumpy and tired Floridians took to Twitter to complain and make some jokes. While the situation can be amusing, there is a real fear that people might shut off their emergency alerts to avoid such “tests” in the future.

The Jokes

Users couldn’t hold back from making fun of Florida Governor Ron Desantis.

“DeSantis’ emergency management department sent test emergency alert to Floridian’s phone at 4:45 a.m. to prove his mandate that “Florida is where ‘woke’ goes to die.””

and some anger at the governor:

“The entire state of Florida was awakened by an emergency alert test at 4:45 AM this morning. I’m so angry at Ron DeSantis that I’d like to organize thousands of drivers to honk their horns outside the Governor’s mansion each night at 4:45 AM— but he’s never actually there.”

And another “woke” joke:

“DeSantis’ reminds Florida that it is indeed an anti-woke state (by waking every one up at 4 a.m.)”

Anger

Some people were annoyed that their sleep was disturbed.

“To whoever decided to do a test of Florida’s Emergency Alert System at 4:45 a.m.: I hope you step on a Lego. Jerk.”

And a few commented that this might result in a lot of people turning off alerts altogether on their phones.

The only thing the state of florida achieved with this 4:43am emergency alert test was helping people find out how to turn alerts off, probably at the expense of all other alerts including AMBER alerts

“The emergency alert test at 4am probably just made us less safe by convincing thousands of people to turn off their emergency alerts.”

Another added, “The @FloridaGOP and their brave mouse hunter @RonDeSantisFL sent out an Emergency Alert to every Florida resident at 4:45am so they’d have time to walk or swim to work since the Governor hasn’t bothered to end his book tour and come back to Florida to help deal with the flooding.”
