However, his stance as a prominent figure within the House Judiciary Committee reveals a different side. Johnson was an outspoken critic of President Biden, explicitly stating that bribery seemed to be at play.
The House Oversight and Accountability Committee, after subpoenaing the personal financial records of James Biden and Hunter Biden, has highlighted two checks labeled as personal loans exchanged between the brothers following Biden’s departure from office. Republicans have suggested that these checks are connected to significant business dealings.
One of these checks, amounting to $200,000, was repaid after James Biden’s involvement with an American company. Another check, totaling $40,000, was exchanged between the brothers after Hunter Biden received funds from a Chinese company and subsequently transferred some of the money to his uncle’s company.
Not Enough Proof
Democrats, however, contend that these funds merely represent short-term loans among family members and were initiated when Biden was a private citizen. They argue that there is no evidence of inappropriate behavior by the Biden administration despite months of investigation.
Rep. Richard Neal, the leading Democrat on the Ways and Means Committee, which is also probing Biden, expressed frustration, stating that there is no substantiated evidence of wrongdoing. He criticized the investigation for seemingly running on empty and diminishing Congress’s proper role in government oversight.

However, Speaker Mike Johnson, who succeeded a former Speaker somewhat hesitant about pursuing the matter, recently asserted the need for the House to make decisions regarding an investigation that involves three committees. He emphasized the importance of adhering to due process and the law, stressing the obligation to the Constitution and conducting thorough investigations at an appropriate pace to follow the evidence and truth wherever they lead.
Johnson underlined that the outcome of the investigation had not been predetermined or prejudged, but the unfolding circumstances were evident to all.
No Definitive Evidence
While the GOP has stoked the controversy, they have yet to uncover definitive evidence directly implicating the president in benefiting from his family’s international business dealings or influencing policy decisions as vice president due to them.
The crux of the allegations centers on Biden’s actions as vice president in removing Ukrainian prosecutor Viktor Shokin. Republicans contend that these actions were not a response to Shokin’s supposed failure to address corruption, as Biden claims, but rather an effort to benefit Biden’s son, who held a position on the board of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma during that time.
