Reports from NBC News suggest that certain Democrats, even those within the White House, are growing disenchanted with the term “Bidenenomics.” Initially coined by President Biden and his administration to tout the economic benefits of their policies, some members of the party now question its efficacy.
A Counterproductive Phrase
Critics argue that the branding of “Bidenomics” might be counterproductive. A Democratic strategist, for instance, remarked, “Whoever came up with the slogan Bidenomics should be fired. It’s probably the worst messaging you could ever imagine.”
Rep. James Clyburn of South Carolina openly expressed his disapproval of the term, saying, “I don’t like it either.” He argued that the people President Biden represents are more focused on everyday challenges like education, family support, and community development, which doesn’t align with the notion of ‘Bidenomics.’
Struggling to Gain Traction
Democratic pollster Celinda Lake chimed in, noting that the repetition and visibility of the term didn’t yield the desired results. Despite extensive advertising and efforts, ‘Bidenomics’ still struggled to gain traction, leaving doubts about its effectiveness in resonating with the public.
The American Dream
During a June economic address in Chicago, President Biden attempted to reframe Bidenomics as synonymous with the American Dream. He stated, “Bidenomics is just another way of saying restore the American dream because it worked before. It’s rooted in what we’ve always worked best at in this country, investing in America, investing in Americans. Because when we invest in our people, we strengthen the middle class.”
A focus group conducted by the research firm Engagious found that a swing voter referred to ‘Bidenomics’ as a confusing and convoluted concept, describing it as a “jumbled mess” that’s difficult to explain.
A Challenging Concept To Grasp
A recent Fox News survey revealed that 62% of Americans expressed their disapproval of President Biden’s handling of the economy, while only 37% approved. Despite these numbers, prominent administration figures, such as White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and Vice President Kamala Harris, remain steadfast in their promotion of Bidenomics, asserting that it benefits ordinary citizens.
Some Democrats, however, express reservations about the term Bidenomics, considering it less appealing to the media and potentially challenging for voters to grasp. As former Jill Biden press secretary Michael LaRosa put it, “‘Bidenomics’ is just not sexy for the media to cover or simple enough for voters to digest, especially if they don’t see it or feel it.”
