Pick one thing

It’s overwhelming to start. Whether it’s a project of saving money (Have you signed up for the $1000 savings challenge yet?) or paying down debt or just getting a better handle on your finances. This is particularly true when you have a lot of big expenses that pile on one after the other.

It’s tempting to start looking at your budget and just SLASHING things from it. When you are looking to cut costs you may want to analyze your grocery bill and go to all the different stores to get all the deals and coupons and points.

Diving in head first and committing totally to a new lifestyle usually doesn’t work. Becoming extreme right away works for a short amount of time and then fails spectacularly. This is part of the reason why I don’t recommend No-Spend Days. If you are feeling overwhelmed with your finances and your goals, then here is my advice. Take it or leave it as you will.

Do you have $1,000 in savings?

I really want the answer to be a resounding YES! But I have a feeling that for many of you the answer is a resounding NO!

Are you struggling to get ahead? Do you feel like you work hard but never seem to make a difference in your finances? It seems like every day is a juggling act and no matter how hard you work or how many pennies you pinch or how many dimes you stretch you never seem to gain any traction.

The only way to step out of this cycle and actually get ahead is to have savings. Real savings. Having money set aside- first for emergencies, then for life, then for investing- is the way to get out of the rut of paycheck to paycheck living.

How to save money with a large family

The best way to save money on food when feeding a large family….

is a tip that you don’t want to hear.

In fact, its not necessarily a “tip” or a “hack” but a complete lifestyle change. When you are feeding a large family then your food costs are multiplied exponentially. Its much harder to save money using couponing etc. You need some drastic measures.

I always get a lot of backlash when I share this in real life or any of the forums I frequent. I am curious if this blog post will get the same type of dismissive reaction.

The best way to save money on food, particularly if you are cooking and feeding a large family, is something you probably don’t want to hear and you certainly don’t want to implement. I am going to share it anyways because it really is the most effective and the most healthy way to change your diet. If you do agree to begrudgingly give it a try it will change the way you eat forever. ( OK, I actually can’t promise “forever”- we have been doing it for 4 years and it has changed the way we eat but that is all the data I have on the subject.) I don’t have such a large family but I grew up in one so I know the struggle of feeding a large a family on a budget.
